Most Thais in Bangkok use the city bus system. It is safe, convenient and inexpensive. The bus system, however, can be very confusing to those who do not read Thai. I believe there are at least four different kinds of buses running the streets of Bangkok. The Air Bus is the most popular among the working class and pretty much goes everywhere in Bangkok. This is the one my wife and I usually catch for a quick trip to The Mall Bangkapi. There are also Air Express Buses which go from point A to point B without stopping or only stopping a few times. They are usually more expensive. They come with a TV set and reading material for convenience. The regular (non-air) buses are the most common and cheapest to ride. They go a lot more places and are usually pretty packed during rush hour. The last and, in my opinion, the most dangerous, is what I like to call “The Careening Green” bus. These are smaller buses, painted green, and they are always in a big hurry. I have ridden on a few and it certainly an interesting trip.
