It’s the people, stupid!
While working in Chiang Mai several years ago, I once met a couple on vacation from Michigan. They appeared to be in their mid-50’s and were having a great time. We got to talking and I found out that they had been vacationing in Thailand each year for the past ten years. Ten years! I can assure you that they had already seen everything there was to see in ten years. Obviously, something else made them decide to spend their vacations in Thailand. Can you imagine them now, getting off the plane in Chiang Mai and their Thai family meeting them with garlands and gifts? Welcome home, dear American family. Yes, as nice as the country is and as full of awe inspiring sights, it truly is the people of Thailand that makes Thailand special. You will see for yourselves in June.
