How long will it take to get to Thailand from Tulsa?
A very long time! It is about four hours to the West Coast and then another ten hours to Japan. From Japan it will take another seven hours to get to Bangkok. Altogether, plan on around twenty-five to thirty hours, depending on how long we have to wait on flights.
What kind of stuff to buy do they have in Bangkok?
Hey, we are talking about stuff heaven here. Thailand has a well developed handicraft industry and Thailand sends stuff all over the world. Thai silk is especially beautiful and of a very high grade. Woodcarving, linen painting, jewelry (both gold and silver) and textiles all play a major role in Thai exports. All this stuff can be had fairly inexpensively. Again, you will have a great chance to buy some really neat, exotic goods for yourself or family.
Thai cuisine, in my opinion, is one of the finest cuisines in the world. It takes the traditional Chinese cooking style and adds some really interesting spices. The Thai curries are absolutely marvelous (if not mind-numbingly hot). Here are some pictures I dug up to give you an idea of the variety of Thai cuisine and Thai fruits.
Fruits and Food of Thailand
Most of the fruits you see here will be available in June for you to try. All of the dishes you see will most definitely be available in June. Be careful when ordering a Thai dish because the Thais like it hot. Thai food is by far the spiciest food on the planet. One way I found to cool the mouth after eating Thai hot food is to eat bread or a dairy product. Also eating cucumbers will help soothe the palate from the scorching Thai peppers. Most places can fix Thai dishes with a little less bite but expect it to still be hot. Also, the Thais use a perfumed rice called Jasmine rice to go along with their dishes. It is absolutely marvelous in both taste and texture. It is often said by visitors to Thailand that it is very difficult to find a bad meal in Bangkok. When we go to Bangkok in June, let’s see if that is true.
